Picture of the Week – Floating Tram

with one comment

The horse-drawn tram at the Museum of Transport, Glasgow.

The picture above shows the Glasgow Corporation Tramways’ 543 horse-drawn tram inching its way through the Museum of Transport’s main hall. Decant technicians and our contractors used specialist rails to move the 19th-century tram out of its location.

It is useful when photographing large objects, such as this tram, to include people in the image to provide a sense of scale. The converging verticals in the roof beams and the paved floor have also added perspective to the photograph.

To see a slideshow of exactly how the move was done, please check back here next week. Or you can subscribe using the link on your right.
