Decant update: half-hulls halfway to GMRC

leave a comment »

The packing of the objects at Museum of Transport in Glasgow is progressing at a steady pace – and on schedule. Here’s the latest news from the Riverside Museum Project’s Decant team as they continue their work on the mezzanine floor of the museum.

Now that the prams are ready to go, the half-hull ship models in the Clyde Room are being prepared for transportation to Glasgow Museums Resource Centre in Nitshill. First we wrap the hulls in tissue paper, then we bubble-wrap them before placing them in a crate ready for transportation. The team use specific packing methods to ensure the objects can be carefully and safely moved.

Decant technician Brian Boyle carefully wraps up one of the half-hull ship models in the Clyde Room at MOT.

We’ve also been preparing some of the motorcycles on the gallery for the move to GMRC. The motorcycles will be transported using A-frames although the team will need to wrap any protruding parts of the objects to ensure no damage occurs when they’re moved. More on that soon …
