Behind the scenes – The Conservation Workshop

So what goes on behind the scenes at a museum? For the past four years, myself and at times up to 16 other conservators have been working away in “labs” located around the Museum of Transport. We had paintings and frames conservators in the Art store, a Natural History conservator looking at anything from a walrus to tattood skin, and a much larger transport team to get things moving!

This large team was needed to check and conserve objects before they moved from the Museum of Transport stores to Glasgow Museums Resources Centre.  These days we are a much smaller team. The pictures show the main transport workshop and our smaller laboratory with some of the objects that are currently undergoing treatment.
