Picture of the Week – Under the Trams

leave a comment »

Conservator Jacek cleans underneath the trams

This week conservator Jacek Wicklo had been getting stuck into cleaning underneath the trams in preparation for their impending move.

The image was taken on a Nikon D700 with a 50mm 1.4 lens – ISO1600,  1/60th sec at f1.6.

The shallow depth of field has helped to draw attention into the action within the image while the 1/60th shutter speed has frozen the movement of the steam. Working at a high ISO such as 1600 allows for hand held photography in darker places like beneath this tram. Getting pictures like this in museums can often mean squeezing into unusual spaces and getting a bit grubby!
