Conservation of the ship model Shangtung

leave a comment »

These images show the ship model Shangtung during its conservation by Rebecca Jackson. The main problems with this model were the detached lifeboat, which had been tied back on with new rigging, and the fingerprints on the bronze-painted hull. Sweat from hands will mark objects, especially anything metal, which is why conservators often wear gloves. These fingerprints had to be polished out with a mild metal polish.
